About Us

We are a family operated and ran corn detasseling crew. We contract for several seed companies in the Chatham-Kent area. The owners are Maureen Nettleton and Robert Nettleton which are two seperate contractors working together to supply and create more and better jobs in the Chatham and surrounding areas

History of Our Company

In 1988 Carol gave up the corn crew to Diane her daughter now my sister in law. I helped her run the crew.

In 1990 my mom (Maureen Nettleton) took over the crew. I helped her build the crew for a few years till I took it over. She retired (or so I thought).

In 2003 Mom just couldn’t stay away, she loved the memories, and watching the kids grow up each year as they returned. So she started her own crew again.

For nearly 30 years we’ve work together, building the best crew and work environment for you and your children.

We have put our past experiences to work forming different (sub crews I’ll call them) to give everyone the chance to work, learn, and grow at there own pace. We teach them in an environment where they can learn at there own pace. Expertise comes in time not over night. This approach keeps people coming back. And you are the foundation of our crew.

It’s sad seeing people leave the crew to go to college or other full time careers. We appreciate the opportunity to have worked with all of our students and know that they have developed good work skills and memories that they will use in the future.

Tassels grow on corn plants. Detasseling involves removing the tassles from the corn properly, which forces cross-pollination.

Removing the tassels involve finding the tassel, grabbing it, pulling it off, and throwing it on the ground. That is all there is to it!
